Stewardship

Join our Stewardship Program

Previously called Fellowship Program, a new name was approved February 7, 2024, by the Orcas Island Foundation board of directors.

Stewardship means ‘careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care.’ At Indralaya, this care includes 78 acres of forest, meadows and trails situated along ¾ of a mile of coastline and the individuals and families who come to live in cooperative harmony with nature and each other.

Pursue a deeper and more intensive commitment to Indralaya by applying for a stewardship position. These positions require a minimum commitment of two consecutive weeks, but are often extended for longer. Individuals must be age 18 or older to be eligible.

Stewardship volunteers may be involved in a wide array of duties, which might include cooking, gardening, maintenance, construction projects, cleaning, or transportation. We are looking for people who are interested in an environment where volunteers participate in community activities and programs, including vegetarian meals in a common dining room.

Stewardship volunteers work approximately 5 hours a day with one full day off each week. In return, Indralaya provides food, housing, and everlasting gratitude in addition to waiving all program expenses. The cooperative spirit and talents of stewardship volunters are essential in making the ideals of Indralaya a reality.
